We were very glad to have opted for the kayaks so we could explore rather than the majority who went for the bamboo boats and just sat around not doing much The bad - the driver who transferred us from our hotel to the jetty did not speak English, frequently got lost finding other client's hotels, and told us "5 minutes" for the toilet stop and proceeded to disappear for 40mins leaving the doors locked open so all the aircon leaked out and we sat there sweating waiting for his return - water and soft drinks are not included in the price which seems a little stingy seeing as it is quite expensive and these would cost very little for them to supply. The bed wasn't particularly soft, but we prefer a hard bed anyway so that wasnt an issue - there was HEAPS of food which was beautifully presented (lots of seafood, so let them know if you don't like it or have allergies otherwise you will miss out on some courses) - caving was pretty fun- nothing particularly special in terms of caves worldwide, but lovely scenery and good to stretch the legs - it was fun swimming the staff and guests at sunset - paddling in the bay was really fun. The room was big and clean, and the bathroom was also very spacious. The good parts of the cruise - the room was magnificent, and we literally fell asleep watching thunder storms over the bay through our window. ![]() ![]() We are SO glad we didn't! Compared to other tourist attractions in Vietnam, and lots of other countries' beaches they really weren't as polluted as we were lead to believe, or as crazy touristy. We read lots of negative reviews/blogs about Halong and Lan Ha Bays and nearly gave them a miss.
